Dental surgery at Dobrý Dent: Expert care in the heart of Prague

What exactly does dental surgery involve?
The scope of dental surgery is very wide and covers many areas of oral health care. The most common procedures we perform at our Dobrý Dent clinic include:
- Tooth extractions: Simple and complicated extractions of teeth that can no longer be saved, wisdom teeth (figure eights), impacted (unerupted) teeth or teeth damaged by injury or deep decay.
- Wisdom tooth surgery: A specific area that includes the extraction of unerupted, partially erupted or poorly positioned wisdom teeth that can cause pain, inflammation or damage to neighboring teeth.
- Dental implantology: The introduction of dental implants as a replacement for lost teeth. This is the most modern and physiological method of restoring teeth. Bone augmentation (supplementation) may also be included.
- Root tip resection (apicoectomy): Surgical removal of the tip of the tooth root and the inflammatory focus around it, if standard endodontic treatment (root canal treatment) has failed.
- Cyst and tumor removal: Surgical treatment of cysts and smaller benign tumors in the jaw area and soft tissues of the oral cavity.
- Preprosthetic surgery: Adjustment of hard and soft tissues in the oral cavity before the fabrication of dental prostheses (dentures) to ensure their better stability and functionality. This may include, for example, adjusting the shape of the gums or bone ridge.
- Treatment of inflammation: Surgical treatment of complicated inflammations in the teeth and jaws (e.g. abscesses).
- Injuries to the teeth and jaws: Treatment of fractures of the teeth, jaws and other injuries in the facial area.
- Soft tissue adjustments: For example, frenulectomy (removal or adjustment of the lip or tongue frenulum) or gingivoplasty (adjustment of the shape of the gums).
Each of these procedures requires specific knowledge, experience and often specialized equipment, which is a given at Dobrý Dent.
Tooth extraction: When is it necessary and how is it done?
Tooth extraction, popularly known as „pulling“, is one of the most common dental surgical procedures. We always approach it as a last resort when the tooth cannot be saved by conservative methods (filling, endodontics) or leaving it in the mouth poses a risk to the patient’s overall health. The most common reasons for extraction include:
- Extensive tooth decay destroying most of the crown and root.
- Advanced periodontitis with extensive bone loss and looseness of the tooth.
- A fracture of the tooth extending deep below the gum or a longitudinal fracture of the root.
- Unsuccessful endodontic treatment with persistent inflammation that cannot be resolved by resection of the root apex.
- Orthodontic reasons (to make room for straightening other teeth).
- Supernumerary or impacted teeth.
- Wisdom teeth causing problems.
Wisdom teeth extraction (figure eights)
Wisdom teeth are a chapter in themselves. There is often not enough space in the jaw for them, they grow obliquely, press on neighboring teeth, are difficult to clean or remain partially or completely unerupted (impacted). This can lead to repeated painful inflammation of the gums (pericoronitis), the development of cavities on the eights and neighboring sevens, the formation of cysts or damage to the roots of neighboring teeth. In such cases, surgical extraction of wisdom teeth is fully indicated. Thanks to precise diagnostics using our 3D CBCT X-ray, we can accurately plan even complicated extractions of impacted eights with minimal risk.
Painless extraction at Dobrý Dent
We understand that fear of pain is the main reason for concerns about extraction. That is why at Dobrý Dent we use modern methods of local anesthesia, including computer-controlled anesthesia STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia System). This system allows the anesthetic to be applied very slowly and in a controlled manner, which minimizes discomfort during the injection and ensures deep and targeted anesthesia of only the necessary area, often without the unpleasant feeling of a „numb“lip or tongue. The procedure itself is completely painless. After the extraction, we will provide you with detailed instructions for home care to ensure the fastest and most trouble-free healing.
Dental Implants: A Modern Replacement for Lost Teeth
Losing a tooth, whether due to injury, decay or periodontitis, is not only an aesthetic but also a functional problem. A dental implant is now considered the best solution for replacing a missing tooth. It is a small titanium screw that is surgically inserted into the jawbone in place of the original tooth root. Titanium is a biocompatible material, which means that the body accepts it very well and the bone grows firmly onto it (a process called osseointegration). After the implant has healed (usually several months), a crown, bridge, or denture is placed on it.
The advantages of dental implants are undeniable:
- Aesthetics: The crown on the implant looks and feels like your own tooth.
- Functionality: They fully restore chewing function without restrictions.
- Protection of neighboring teeth: Unlike a bridge, it is not necessary to grind healthy neighboring teeth.
- Bone preservation: The implant stimulates the bone similarly to the root of your own tooth and prevents its loss (atrophy).
- Long-term solution: With proper care, implants can last a lifetime.
Implantology in Dobrý Dent: Precision through technology
The success of implantation depends on precise planning and execution. At Dobrý Dent, we use the most modern diagnostic and planning tools:
- 3D CBCT X-ray: Provides a detailed three-dimensional image of the jawbone, which allows us to accurately assess the quality and quantity of bone, identify important anatomical structures (nerves, blood vessels, cavities) and plan the optimal position and size of the implant.
- Intraoral 3D scanner: Enables us to create an accurate digital model of your teeth and gums without the need for unpleasant impressions. This model is used to plan and produce the final prosthetic work (crown, bridge).
- Surgical templates: Based on CBCT and scans, we can create an individual surgical template that guides the drills to the precisely planned position during the operation, which increases the safety and accuracy of the procedure.
- Operating microscope: During some phases of implantation or when resolving complications, the microscope allows for multiple magnification of the surgical field, which leads to more precise and gentle work with tissues.
Our team has extensive experience in implant placement and so-called augmentation techniques (bone supplementation) if there is not enough bone for implantation. We will always propose an individual treatment plan for you, taking into account your needs and possibilities.
Advanced technologies for your safety and comfort
The Dobrý Dent Clinic invests in the most modern technologies because we believe that they are the key to providing top-notch, safe and comfortable dental surgical care. In addition to the aforementioned technologies for implantology, we use:
- Operating microscope: An invaluable assistant not only in endodontics, but also in microsurgery. It allows you to perform even the most delicate procedures with maximum precision, minimize invasiveness and improve healing. We use it for root tip resections, removal of broken instruments, but also for delicate work with soft tissues.
- Computer-controlled anesthesia STA: As already mentioned, this technology fundamentally changes the experience of applying local anesthesia. Controlled pressure and speed of application minimize the pain of the injection and allow for targeted anesthesia, which increases patient comfort before and after the procedure.
- Digital radiography (RVG and CBCT): Provides instant and high-quality images with significantly lower radiation exposure compared to classic X-rays. 3D CBCT is the gold standard for planning complex surgical procedures, such as implantation or extraction of impacted teeth near nerves.
- Modern sterilization procedures: Adhering to the strictest hygiene and sterilization standards is an absolute priority for us to ensure the safety of all our patients.
These technologies allow us to work more precisely, more gently and efficiently, which translates into better treatment results, shorter healing times and, above all, a more positive experience for you, our patients.
