Dental Implant Placement: A Permanent Solution for Your Smile

Why choose a dental implant? Advantages over bridges and dentures
Compared to traditional methods of tooth replacement, such as bridges or removable dentures, dental implants offer a number of key advantages:
- Preserving surrounding teeth: Unlike a bridge, it is not necessary to grind down adjacent healthy teeth to serve as abutments. The implant is a separate unit that protects your natural teeth.
- Preventing bone loss: After tooth loss, the jawbone in the area gradually atrophies (shrinks) because it is not stimulated by the tooth root. The implant replaces this stimulation and helps maintain bone volume and density, which is important for preserving facial structure.
- High stability and comfort: The implant is firmly fused to the bone, which ensures maximum stability when eating and speaking. You do not have to worry about the prosthesis loosening or moving, as can be the case with removable dentures. They feel the closest to your own teeth.
- Aesthetics: Crowns and bridges placed on implants are made to perfectly imitate the shape, size and color of your natural teeth. The result is a completely natural and harmonious smile.
- Longevity: With proper care and regular check-ups, dental implants can serve you for many years, often even a lifetime. They are an investment in your health and quality of life.
- Improvement in quality of life: Thanks to the strength and natural appearance of implants, you can eat your favorite foods without restrictions, laugh and speak with confidence.
Who is a good candidate for dental implants?
Dental implants are suitable for most adult patients who have lost one or more teeth. The key requirements for successful implantation are:
- Good general health: Some chronic diseases (e.g. decompensated diabetes, serious immune system diseases) or treatments (e.g. radiation to the head and neck, some types of osteoporosis medications) may be contraindications or require special precautions. It is always necessary to discuss your medical history in detail with your doctor.
- Sufficient amount and quality of jawbone: For successful healing of the implant, sufficient bone volume at the planned implantation site is necessary. If the bone is not sufficient, there are modern surgical techniques (so-called augmentation or bone building) that can solve the situation. At Dobrý Dent, we use advanced 3D CBCT diagnostics to accurately assess the condition of your bone.
- Healthy gums: Active gum inflammation (periodontitis) must be treated before implantation to prevent complications. Thorough dental hygiene is the basis for success.
- Completed jaw growth: Implants are usually not placed in patients under 18 years of age whose jaw development has not yet been completed.
- No smoking: Smoking significantly increases the risk of complications and reduces the success of implant healing. We recommend that you reduce smoking or ideally quit.
The best way to find out if you are a suitable candidate is to have a non-binding consultation at our Dobrý Dent clinic. Our experienced doctors will carefully assess your condition and suggest the optimal solution.
How is a dental implant inserted at Dobrý Dent?
The entire process of inserting a dental implant in our Prague clinic is carefully planned and takes place in several stages, always with maximum consideration for your comfort and safety. At Dobrý Dent, with our practice since 2010, we have perfected this process to your full satisfaction.
1. Consultation and planning: The key to success
The first step is a thorough initial consultation. During it, we will discuss your expectations, medical history and perform a comprehensive examination of the oral cavity. An essential part of the planning is the taking of detailed X-rays, especially 3D CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography). This modern imaging system, which we have right in our clinic, allows us to obtain a three-dimensional image of your jaws with high accuracy. Thanks to this, we can:
- Accurately assess the quantity and quality of bone.
- Identify important anatomical structures (nerves, blood vessels, maxillary sinuses) and plan the placement of the implant so that it is as safe as possible.
- Choose the ideal size and type of implant for your specific situation.
- If necessary, plan bone augmentation (supplementation).
- Create a virtual plan for the procedure that increases predictability and success.
Based on all the information, we will present you with a detailed treatment plan, including a timeline and financial budget. Of course, there is room for your questions and an individual approach.
2. Diagnostics using cutting-edge technologies
In addition to the already mentioned 3D CBCT, we also use other advanced technologies at Dobrý Dent. Intraoral 3D scanner allows us to create an accurate digital model of your teeth without the need for the use of unpleasant impression materials. This digital impression is used not only for planning, but also for the subsequent production of precise and aesthetic prosthetic work (crown or bridge).
3. The surgical procedure itself: Precision and painlessness
The actual insertion of the implant is an outpatient surgical procedure that we perform under local anesthesia. At Dobrý Dent, we place great emphasis on the painlessness of the treatment. That is why we use the modern computer-controlled anesthesia system STA (Single Tooth Anesthesia System), which allows the anesthetic to be applied very slowly and specifically, which minimizes the discomfort associated with the injection. Patients often describe the application as almost imperceptible.
During the procedure, the doctor gently lifts the gum, creates a precise bed in the bone and inserts a titanium implant into it. For maximum precision and minimal invasiveness, we often use an operating microscope, which provides us with multiple magnification of the surgical field. This allows us to work with delicate tissues with maximum care and accuracy. After the implant is inserted, the gum is closed with stitches.
The entire procedure usually takes 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the number of implants and the complexity of the situation. Thanks to modern procedures and our experience, the procedure is surprisingly comfortable for the patient.
4. Healing phase (osseointegration)
After the implant is inserted, the healing phase, called osseointegration, follows. During this time, bone cells grow into microscopic pores on the surface of the titanium implant and firmly connect with it. This process is key to the long-term stability and success of the implant. The healing time is individual, usually taking 2 to 6 months depending on the quality of the bone and the location of the implant (the lower jaw heals faster than the upper jaw). During this time, the implant may be covered by the gum or provided with a so-called healing roller. In some cases, especially in an aesthetically significant area, it is possible to make a temporary replacement.
5. Fitting the prosthetic work (crown, bridge)
Once the implant has healed firmly (osseointegrated), the final phase comes – making and fitting the prosthetic work. Using a 3D intraoral scanner or classic impressions, we obtain an accurate model of the situation in your mouth. Based on this model, the dental laboratory will make a crown, bridge or other prosthetic work that will exactly match the shape, size and color of your other teeth. The doctor will firmly attach the finished work to the implant. The result is a fully functional and aesthetically perfect replacement for the lost tooth.
Advanced technologies at Dobrý Dent for your comfort and safety
We believe that investing in modern technology is an investment in the quality of care and satisfaction of our patients. That is why at Dobrý Dent we use:
- 3D CBCT: For the most accurate diagnosis and safe planning of implantation. We can see exactly where to place the implant and minimize the risk of damage to surrounding structures.
- Intraoral 3D scanner: For comfortable and highly accurate digital impressions without unpleasant masses. Ensures perfect fit of the final crown or bridge.
- Operating microscope: For precise surgical procedures with minimal invasiveness. It allows us to see details that are invisible to the naked eye, which leads to gentler treatment and better healing.
- STA system: For painless application of local anesthesia. We want your visit to be as pleasant as possible.
These technologies allow us to provide the highest level of care, increase the success rate of procedures, and shorten healing time.
Dental Implant Care: A Guarantee of Longevity
Dental implants cannot be affected by tooth decay, but the surrounding tissues (gums and bone) require careful hygiene. For the long-term maintenance of the implant, it is absolutely essential:
- Thorough home oral hygiene: Regular brushing of teeth (including special brushes for implants), use of interdental brushes and dental floss to remove plaque from around the implant.
- Regular professional cleaning (dental hygiene): We recommend visiting a dental hygienist at Dobrý Dent at least twice a year. He will professionally remove tartar and plaque from hard-to-reach areas and check the condition of the tissues around the implant.
- Regular check-ups with the dentist: Check-ups allow you to detect potential problems early and ensure the long-term function and stability of the implant.
If you follow these principles, your dental implants can serve you reliably for many years, often for a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does a dental implant hurt?
The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia and is painless. In addition, at Dobrý Dent, we use the STA system for comfortable application of anesthetic. After the anesthesia wears off, you may feel slight pressure or sensitivity, which can be easily managed with commonly available analgesics. Most patients are surprised by how little discomfort the procedure causes.
How long does the entire process take?
The time from the first consultation to the placement of the final crown depends on the individual situation. The surgical procedure itself takes approximately 30-90 minutes. The healing phase (osseointegration) usually takes 2-6 months. If bone augmentation is necessary, the total time may be extended. We will provide you with the exact time schedule during your consultation.
What is the lifespan of a dental implant?
With proper care and regular check-ups, dental implants have a very high success rate and can last for many years, often even a lifetime. The success rate is over 95% within 10 years.
How much does it cost to have a dental implant inserted?
The price depends on the type of implant, the need for additional procedures (e.g. bone augmentation) and the type of prosthetic work (crown, bridge). After a thorough examination and treatment planning, we at Dobrý Dent will always prepare a detailed and transparent price calculation for you.
